Operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of Ogun State Police have shot dead two suspected kidnappers involved in the kidnapping of Prince Idris of Okun Owa.

The police operation also recovered an AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a suspected ransom bag, and other items.

On Thursday, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Olusayo Babaseyi, announced a major success in the fight against kidnapping. He said sustained pressure on the gang led to the safe release of the prince and the killing of two kidnappers.

The prince was kidnapped on June 30, 2026, around 7.30pm. The kidnappers stormed his home in Okun Owa and took him away.

The police statement said, “Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police quickly activated the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, along with other tactical teams, to ensure the victim's release and catch those responsible.”

Thanks to their efforts, the prince was freed unharmed on July 3, 2026. After his release, the police stepped up their search for the kidnappers. Using reliable intelligence, they raided the Agoro/Imodi area, where the suspects fired at the police.

“The operatives responded effectively, killing two kidnappers, while others in the gang escaped with gunshot wounds,” the statement said.

A search of the bodies revealed an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a suspected ransom bag, and other items connected to the case.

The bodies of the dead kidnappers have been taken to a government morgue for autopsy. The police are still trying to find the fleeing suspects and recover more evidence.

Bode Ojajuni, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, praised the bravery and skill of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the other teams involved. He confirmed the police's commitment to breaking down criminal groups in the state.

He urged residents to stay alert and keep supporting the police with timely information. He assured them that the police will continue to focus on intelligence-led policing and strong tactical operations to protect lives and property in Ogun State.

The public is encouraged to report any suspicious people or activities through the Gateway Shield toll-free line, 0800 000 9111, or the emergency numbers, 09164859299 and 09154293464.
