The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 11 students from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso. They are suspected members of the notorious Eiye Confraternity. The police also recovered firearms, ammunition, and other dangerous weapons from them.

This information came from a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, in Ibadan, the state capital, on Friday. The arrests followed reliable intelligence received by the police command.

Ayanlade named the suspects as Adedapo Victor (24) - the alleged leader; Taiwo Rasheed (22) - the alleged second-in-command; Emeka Issac (20); Akande Segundo (26); Akande Julius (26); Stephen Opeyemi (24); Fortune Abel (22); Oluwatunmise Ayodeji (22); Adigun Oladimeji (32); Akande Moses (28); and Karim Kalid (20).

The PPRO said that a detailed search of the suspects and their hideout led to the recovery of various items meant for violent activities. Ayanlade noted, "Exhibits recovered include four locally fabricated cut-to-size pistols; eleven live cartridges; one expended cartridge; two cult axes; one cutlass; one dagger knife; and one red cult hooded cap."

The police acted on credible information received by the command. Operatives from the Violent Crime Response Unit were sent to the locations after it was confirmed that Eiye Confraternity members had gathered at their hideout in the Under-G, Yuako, and Adenike areas. They were allegedly planning coordinated attacks within the student community that could cause chaos.

When the police arrived at the spots, they quickly intervened and stopped the planned attacks before they could happen. This led to the arrest of the 11 male suspects, according to the PPRO.

After their arrest, the suspects were taken into custody. They admitted to being members of the Eiye Confraternity. Initial investigations also revealed their involvement in various cult-related crimes, including murder.

Ayanlade confirmed that all 11 suspects are students at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso. He said, "In response to this development, the state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Abimbola, praised the professionalism, vigilance, and quick action of the operatives. Their swift response prevented what could have turned into violent attacks in the student community."

The CP assured that the police are dedicated to bringing all those connected to this criminal group to justice. They are also working to catch other members of the group who are still on the run.

The police stated that all suspects will face charges in court once investigations are complete. They urged the public to keep providing timely and reliable information that can help in the fight against cultism and other violent crimes.

The Police also reiterated their commitment to eliminating cultism and other violent crimes while ensuring public safety and order in the state.
