One person died and another person was hurt in a crash involving two trucks on the Benin-Ore Expressway in the Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State.
PUNCH Metro got information from a traffic update on Monday by Babatunde Akinbiyi, who speaks for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency. The accident took place around 12 pm at the J4 section of the expressway.
Akinbiyi said the crash involved a white Howo truck with number plate FSK 274 XA and a blue tractor without a registration number. He added that three men were involved in the crash. One person died and another was injured.
“Three male adults were involved in the accident, one male adult injured and one male adult died.
“According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred due to excessive speeding and loss of control on the part of the truck driver,” the report said.
He mentioned that TRACE and police officers arrived at the scene around 12:20 pm. They started rescue and traffic management efforts right away. Akinbiyi said the victims were taken to Hope Hospital, J4, for medical care. The police and a towing vehicle were also called in to help with the investigation and to remove the damaged vehicles.
He noted that traffic was affected during the cleanup but has since returned to normal. Akinbiyi expressed condolences from the agency and the police to the family of the deceased. He urged drivers to avoid speeding.
“While TRACE and the police commiserate with the family of the deceased, motorists are again warned against excessive speed in view of its attendant consequences,” he concluded.
