The Take It Back Movement plans to hold a protest on Monday, June 22. This protest is about the rise in insecurity and the ongoing abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
Dimeji Salako, the Oyo State Coordinator for the group, shared this news in a statement on Saturday. The protest will happen at Iwo Road in Ibadan.
Salako said the protest is part of ongoing actions to demand the release of those who have been kidnapped. He also wants to bring attention to the growing insecurity in Nigeria.
He expressed concern that over a month has passed since 40 schoolchildren and seven teachers were taken in Ogbomoso. He said the victims are still not free.
"It is over one month now since the abduction of 40 schoolchildren and seven teachers in Oyo State and nothing is being done by the government to ensure their release," he stated.
Salako pointed out that insecurity is getting worse. He mentioned that there have been more attacks by bandits across the country.
"Rather than for the situation to get better, insecurity has only worsened as Nigeria has recorded even more attacks by bandits since then. The vulnerable masses are the ones bearing the brunt mostly. They are the ones being brutally murdered and held captive in dangerous forests with their fate unknown," he said.
He urged all Nigerians to join the protest. He wants everyone to demand the release of all kidnap victims and an end to banditry and other forms of insecurity.
"As a movement, we call on Nigerians to join the action to demand the release of all kidnap victims and a total end to banditry and all forms of insecurity in Nigeria.
"It is to this end that we will be rallying Nigerians to march again until freedom is guaranteed," he added.
The movement has been involved in several demonstrations in places like Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, and Osun. They also held protests on June 12 to push for better security and welfare for Nigerians.
