Ten people have died and six others are injured after a serious road crash on Sunday night.

The accident happened around 8:05 PM at Saapade Bridge along the Ibadan, Lagos Expressway. It involved a white Sinotruk truck and a white Toyota Hiace bus with the registration number EKY 290 YM.

Afolabi Odunsi, the spokesman for the Ogun FRSC Sector Command, confirmed this in a statement released on Sunday.

Odunsi said 18 people were involved in the crash. This included 15 adult males, two adult females, and one male child. Sadly, 10 people died, which included nine adult males and one male child. Six others were hurt, with four adult males and two adult females suffering injuries. Two adult males managed to escape without a scratch.

The FRSC said the crash was caused by speeding, wrongful overtaking, and dangerous driving. Odunsi explained, "A total of 18 persons were involved in the crash, comprising 15 adult males, 2 adult females, and 1 male child. Sadly, 10 persons lost their lives, comprising 9 adult males and 1 male child, while 6 persons (4 adult males and 2 adult females) sustained varying degrees of injuries. Two adult males escaped unhurt."

He continued, "Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash was caused by speed violation, wrongful overtaking, and dangerous driving. The truck driver reportedly reversed on the highway after missing his direction. The approaching bus was travelling at high speed and tried to squeeze through a narrow space, crashing into the truck."

Odunsi mentioned that FRSC rescue teams arrived quickly at the scene. They took the injured victims to Victory Hospital in Ogere for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were taken to FOS Mortuary in Ipara.

He added that the Nigeria Police Force from Ishara Division has taken control of the crashed vehicles and arrangements are in place for their removal. The crash site has been cleared and traffic is moving smoothly again.

In a statement, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed his condolences to the families of those who died and wished the injured quick recovery.

Ogunjobi warned drivers, especially commercial drivers and truck operators, against reversing on highways, speeding, and other dangerous driving habits that put lives at risk. He reminded road users to always follow traffic rules, maintain safe speeds, and use proper turning points if they miss their routes. He stressed that these simple steps can help prevent unnecessary loss of lives on our roads.
