The Middle East is getting more unstable as missile and drone strikes continue, with the Strait of Hormuz being a main point of conflict.
On Wednesday morning, the US military restarted a blockade on Iranian ports. In response, Iran launched a new round of strikes aimed at eight US bases in the region, including those in Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain. Both Bahrain and Kuwait issued missile alert warnings due to incoming Iranian fire.
Al Jazeera reported that the Iranian army called this attack the eighth phase of its “Saeqeh” operation.
The Iranian army also mentioned that explosive drones hit areas at Jordan’s Azraq airbase, which house F-18 fighter jets and large equipment hangars, marking the second time this has happened.
Earlier, PREMIUM TIMES reported that US President Donald Trump announced the blockade on Iranian ports would return on Monday. He also said that the US would charge a 20 percent fee on all other vessels, a statement he later withdrew.
In reaction, Iran’s IRGC threatened to stop all energy exports from the Middle East. “The export of oil and gas from the region will be either for everyone or for no one,” Al Jazeera quoted the IRGC as saying.
Meanwhile, the US conducted more strikes on Tuesday night, targeting multiple sites in Iran over seven hours. At least seven Iranian soldiers died in what the state government called “cowardly aggression.”
Iran promised to respond to this attack, stating, “a decisive response will be given to this crime at the appropriate time.”
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it focused on Iranian missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, and coastal defense systems during the seven-hour operation.
They explained that their goal was to “further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping and civilian crews.”
The Iranian Ministry of Health reported that over 260 people were injured in the recent US strikes.
Despite this, President Trump has warned of attacks on Iran’s civilian infrastructure if there is no agreement by next week. “Next week, it gets really bad for them because next week comes the power plants. Next week comes the bridges.
“We’re going to knock out all their power plants. We’re going to knock out all their bridges unless they get to the table and negotiate,” he told Fox News.
