The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Yobe State, Baba Wali, has said he will not betray Governor Mai Mala Buni and former Governor Ibrahim Geidam if he wins the 2027 governorship election.
Wali made this statement on Wednesday. He visited the Emir of Ngazargamu in Geidam Local Government Area, Alhaji Mustapha Ibn Mahmoud, to ask for support, prayers, and blessings.
While speaking at the emir’s palace, Wali stressed that his government, if elected, will focus on continuity, consolidation, and innovation. He wants to build on the achievements and legacy of the Buni administration.
He promised to keep ongoing programs and projects running while also bringing in new ideas to boost the state's development.
“If elected, our government will be continuity, consolidation, and innovation. I will build on Mai Mala Buni’s legacy and ensure that the good works already started are sustained and further developed,” he said.
Wali also mentioned that his commitment to continuity includes honoring the legacies of past leaders, especially Buni and Geidam. He expressed his loyalty to his predecessors and said he will not undermine their contributions to Yobe State.
“I will never betray my predecessors, Governor Mai Mala Buni and former Governor Ibrahim Geidam,” Wali said.
He added that his administration would work closely with traditional institutions, communities, and other stakeholders to identify development priorities. He plans to implement policies that will improve people's lives.
Wali believes traditional rulers are key partners in maintaining peace, unity, and stability, especially as political activities for the 2027 elections ramp up. He asked the Emir of Ngazargamu and other traditional leaders to pray for the peace and progress of the state and guide political leaders.
Earlier, the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Gadaka, said the visit was part of the party’s engagement with traditional institutions and stakeholders across Yobe State. Gadaka recognized the importance of traditional rulers in maintaining peace, unity, and stability.
He stated that the party will keep seeking their guidance, support, and prayers ahead of the 2027 election. “The traditional institution has a very important role to play in maintaining peace, unity, and stability in Yobe State. We will continue to seek their guidance, support, and prayers as we move towards the 2027 election,” Gadaka said.
The state chairman expressed confidence in Wali’s ability to lead responsibly and build on Buni’s achievements. He believes Wali has the experience needed to continue the state’s development and urged stakeholders to support peace during the electoral process.
The Emir of Geidam, Alhaji Mustapha Mahmoud, assured Wali and the APC delegation of his support and prayers. He said the traditional institution would back what Buni had requested and prayed for Wali’s success in politics.
He also prayed for peace, unity, and a smooth political process in Yobe State, extending his prayers to Wali, the APC leadership, and the people of the state.
Wali was joined by the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Saleh Samanja; Gadaka; members of the Yobe State House of Assembly; commissioners; advisers; senior government officials; party leaders; and other stakeholders. This visit is part of the APC’s broader consultations with traditional rulers and community leaders ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
