Anambra Police Catch Wanted Suspect Linked to Robbery and Kidnapping

The Anambra State Police have arrested a 26-year-old suspect named Udochukwu Okafor, also known as Small-Moto. He was caught during an operation in Ebenebe community, located in Awka North Local Government Area.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesman, shared this news in a statement on Sunday. He said the Rapid Response Squad from Awkuzu arrested Okafor on Saturday based on information they received.

Ikenga mentioned that during questioning, Okafor allegedly confessed to snatching a pump-action gun from a vigilante member in Ebenebe.

He also noted that Okafor was on the police’s wanted list. This was due to his suspected involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, cult activities, and crimes related to secessionists.

The statement said, "The operation was conducted by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, following intelligence-led efforts to apprehend the suspect, who was reportedly on the command’s wanted list over alleged involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, cult-related activities, and secessionist-related offences."

During the preliminary questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted to taking the pump-action gun from a vigilante operative. He also claimed to have a locally made short gun, which he and his gang allegedly used for their crimes.

Ikenga said the suspect further confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, known as "Aro-Baggers." This group is suspected of being involved in cult violence in Awka and nearby areas.

The police command is now working hard to find the guns mentioned by Okafor and to dig deeper into his criminal activities. They are also trying to catch the other gang members who are still free.

Ikenga confirmed, "The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue. The command assures residents that efforts to identify and apprehend individuals involved in criminal activities will be sustained in the interest of public safety and security."

He added that updates will be provided as the investigation moves forward.
