US Attacks Iran's Larak Island Again

US missiles hit Iran’s Larak Island on Sunday. This is the latest American strike in a war that has lasted over six months.

Al Jazeera, quoting US sources, said the US forces targeted rocket launchers of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Larak Island. These sources claimed the targets were getting ready to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has denied this claim.

There has been no official word from the Central Africa Command (CENTCOM) about the attack. Yet, the IRGC said the strike on the island resulted in the deaths of several Iranian fighters and civilians.

IRGC spokesperson Sardar Mohebi called the US move “a strategic and fatal mistake.” He warned that the US will face consequences “in both the economic and military arenas.”

In a statement, Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei urged Muslim leaders to “recognise their real enemy, understand its plans and confront it.”

The last US attack on Iran took place on 29 July. PREMIUM TIMES reported that this strike came just hours after President Donald Trump threatened to retaliate against attacks on US bases in Jordan.

Trump's threat followed a pause in his 13-day bombing campaign. This pause happened just five days before, as Tehran stopped its retaliatory strikes on US interests in the Gulf.

The US war with Iran has now gone on for almost seven months. Two weeks ago, the Iran-US MoU, signed on 17 June, expired. This marked the end of a 60-day period for both countries to end the war and reach an agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme.

Last week, the US announced new economic sanctions on Iran aimed at isolating the country economically.

These planned sanctions, called “Operation Economic Outcast,” are intended to isolate and dedollarise nations doing business with Iran. The Treasury Department also sanctioned nearly 60 companies, individuals and vessels across various jurisdictions. They claim these entities support the Iranian regime’s “recklessness.” The list included several Chinese nationals.
