CBN Rejects Fake $46 Billion Grant Claim

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has rejected a fake document that claims Governor Yemi Cardoso approved a $46 billion grant for an organization.

In a post on its official X account on Thursday, CBN called the document “fake” and asked the public to ignore it.

The false letter, dated 13 August 2026, was addressed to the "Atufeg Empowerment and Development Centre." It claimed to be an official approval for a developmental grant.

This letter supposedly had Mr Cardoso’s signature. It said that CBN had given the go-ahead to transfer $46 billion to the beneficiary’s account for “approved national empowerment and developmental projects.”

“The CBN confirms full endorsement and authorises the immediate transfer of these funds to the beneficiary’s designated account,” the fake letter stated.

It even said that the authorisation was “final and binding.”

But CBN made it clear, sharing an image of the document on X. They said: “This content is FAKE. Let the public be guided.”

CBN’s statement comes as fake government and financial documents continue to spread on social media. It is important for people to verify such claims through official sources before acting on them.
