A former governorship candidate of the Action Alliance in Imo State, Uche Nwosu, praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday. He described Wike's work as impressive in developing Abuja's infrastructure.
Nwosu’s praise comes as people are discussing how well the FCT Administration is doing under Wike. In the past two years, Wike has pushed for a strong infrastructure renewal plan. This plan focuses on improving roads, transportation, housing, and other public facilities in Nigeria's capital.
At a news conference in Abuja, Nwosu said the minister has shown great leadership by completing key infrastructure projects. These include major roads, bridges, and public facilities.
He said, "Residents and visitors to the nation’s capital can clearly see the impact of ongoing development initiatives under Wike’s administration."
Nwosu added, "I have lived in Abuja for over 25 years and I know what many of these roads looked like before now."
He pointed out projects like Apo Road, Maitama Bridge, Jahi Bridge, and the Airport Expressway to Kuje Road. He mentioned the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road and the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) main carriageways as well.
Since Wike became FCT Minister in August 2023, he has focused on delivering infrastructure. He has started and completed many road projects across the six area councils and the city center.
These projects aim to improve connections, reduce traffic jams, and boost economic activities in the Federal Capital Territory. Nwosu acknowledged that the government’s main job is to provide infrastructure and deliver benefits to citizens.
He highlighted that the FCT Minister has done well in this area. Nwosu also praised the building of judges' quarters, calling it an important move for the welfare of judicial officers.
He said, "Every journey begins with a step. The important thing is that development is taking place. I believe similar interventions will extend to other government institutions and agencies."
Nwosu emphasized that Abuja should meet global standards. He believes the city should be comparable to other major capitals worldwide.
He stated that investment in infrastructure, security, and cleanliness is crucial for enhancing Nigeria’s image. This will also help create a better experience for both residents and visitors.
Nwosu maintained that Wike's leadership is transforming Abuja and deserves recognition. He called the Minister’s performance one of the most impactful in the history of the Federal Capital Territory.
His comments add to the rising list of both support and criticism regarding Wike’s time as FCT Minister. Supporters praise the fast pace of infrastructure work, while critics raise concerns about demolitions, land management, and the need for more attention to social services and rural areas.
Nwosu insisted that the visible improvements in roads and public infrastructure in Abuja show real governance. He sees this as a positive step to make Nigeria's capital stand out among leading cities globally.
