Kaduna Governor Praised for Keeping Promises to Grieving Families

Governor Uba Sani has received praise from both Christian and Muslim leaders for fulfilling his promises to families affected by violence in Kaduna State.

The praise came from Archbishop Timothy Yahaya of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) and Sheikh Haliru Maraya, who heads the Northern branch of the Global Peace Foundation. This recognition followed the governor handing over houses to Mrs Sarah Achi and Malam Usman Aliyu.

Both beneficiaries lost their spouses in tragic events. Edwin Achi, a priest, was killed after being taken hostage. Malama Ummulkhairi Aliyu, an Islamic teacher, was killed by a mob in Maraban Jos in June.

After these incidents, Governor Uba Sani visited the grieving families and promised to provide houses for them. He also pledged to support the education and welfare of Ummulkhairi’s four children.

On Monday, he kept these promises by presenting title documents for the houses to Mrs Achi and Malam Usman during a short event at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House.

At the event, Archbishop Yahaya said the governor has shown that real leadership is about keeping promises. "It is one thing for leaders in our clime to make promises and another thing entirely to fulfil them. Governor Uba Sani has shown that whenever he makes a promise, he keeps it," he stated.

He thanked the governor for bringing hope to the bereaved families and prayed for lasting peace in Kaduna State. "As you have put smiles on the faces of these families, may God continue to bless your administration. We pray that this kind of tragedy will never happen again and that your efforts towards peace and unity will become a lasting legacy," he added.

Sheikh Maraya also spoke. He recalled how Governor Uba Sani visited Ummulkhairi’s family right after her death, gave them ₦10 million, and promised to continue funding the education of her four children.

He mentioned that the governor also instructed officials to enroll the children in good schools and provided the family with a comfortable three-bedroom bungalow. "We thank you immensely for ensuring that your words are always matched by your actions," Sheikh Maraya said.

He described the governor as compassionate, saying, "Since assuming office, you have become a fountain of mercy to the people of Kaduna State. May Almighty Allah continue to reward and elevate you."

In his own remarks, Governor Uba Sani said helping families affected by violence is a major focus of his government. He reminded everyone that his administration gave out 50 houses to families of banditry victims last year and promised to keep this effort going.

"As a government, we will never abandon families who have suffered from insecurity. We will continue to stand by them," the governor said. He also expressed happiness that Mrs Achi has recovered after spending several months in medical care following the attack.
