The Federal Ministry of Works has said no more commercial motorcycles and tricycles on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

This ban starts this week. Olufemi Dare, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, made the announcement in a statement on Sunday.

Mr Dare said the ban is to protect the new parts of the highway from being damaged. He explained that these actions are needed to keep the road in good shape for a long time.

He also said that trucks and large vehicles must not park anywhere they like. This new rule covers the coastal highway and all bridges in Lagos State.

The ministry also said people must not throw waste along the highway. Mr Dare called this practice unacceptable.

He warned that those who break these rules will face strict penalties as the authorities want to keep order. He said signs showing the new rules have already been put up along the highway.

Mr Dare mentioned that task force officials will be sent to key spots to make sure everyone follows the rules. He described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a "world-class infrastructure" that needs proper care and protection.

He urged everyone using the road to follow the new rules for the sake of public safety. He said taking care of the highway will help it last longer and keep its value for Nigerians.
