The Kebbi State Police have arrested a 29-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, for allegedly desecrating the Holy Qur'an in Zuru Local Government Area.
Musa lives in Rafin Mose Village, Zuru. He was arrested for possible criminal conspiracy, abusing religious books, using spells and hypnosis, and causing a disturbance.
A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, said the incident took place on August 9, 2026, around 7pm in the Zango area of Zuru.
The police found that Musa might have conspired with two other suspects, Rabi’u Tela and Hamza Zango, who are currently on the run.
The report said the suspects dug a pit in Zarau Hassan’s room. They buried a copy of the Holy Qur'an, along with semen, white and red kolanuts, underwear, dead animals, and other items described as fetish materials.
The police claimed this act aimed to make Zarau Hassan “more submissive to her husband, Rabi’u Tela.” They added that the incident could upset the peace among Muslims in the area.
“Efforts are ongoing to catch the two suspects who are on the run. Abubakar Musa is in police custody and will be taken to court after the investigation is complete,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, condemned the act and warned people against doing things that could disturb religious peace and public order.
“The command will take firm action, within the law, against anyone whose actions threaten religious peace, public order, and harmonious living,” Hadejia said.
