Police find guns and cult caps from left motorcycle in Anambra

The Anambra State Police have found two locally made guns and three caps linked to the Vikings Confraternity from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area.

Police operatives from the Violent Crime Response Unit made the recovery during a routine patrol at Isuaniocha Bridge on Thursday.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the command, shared this news in a statement on Friday.

Ikenga said the officers saw two young men riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number. The riders suddenly made a dangerous turn when they spotted the police team.

This made the officers chase after them. Ikenga noted that the suspects eventually fell from the motorcycle. They left the bike, two slippers, and a bag behind before running into a nearby bush.

A search of the bag led to the discovery of the guns and caps. The statement said, "The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another significant feat during a routine patrol operation with operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit. During the operation, the team recovered two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with a secret cult from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area."

"The operatives in the afternoon of August 13, 2026 while on patrol along the Isuaniocha Bridge, sighted two young men riding a black-coloured Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number."

"The suspects, on sighting the Police team, suddenly and recklessly turned the motorcycle in an apparent attempt to evade the operatives. The suspicious action prompted the officers to give them a hot chase."

"During the pursuit, the suspects fell from the motorcycle and abandoned it, together with two slippers and a bag, before fleeing into a nearby bush. A search of the abandoned bag subsequently led to the recovery of two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity."

Ikenga mentioned that the police are working hard to catch the fleeing suspects and find out who they are and how they got the recovered items.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has instructed officers to step up efforts to catch the suspects.

The statement added, "The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, notes that the Command remains committed to sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations and proactive policing measures aimed at disrupting criminal activities and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the State."

"He further directs that efforts should be intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects."
