Nigeria is facing serious security issues in many areas. To address this, First Daily will hold a National Dialogue on Security on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. The event will start at 10:00 a.m.
The theme of the dialogue is: "Declaration of State of Emergency on Insecurity: Matching Words with Action."
This event aims to create a national space for open and practical discussions about Nigeria's security situation. The goal is to come up with ideas that can improve national security and rebuild public trust.
Martin Luther Agwai, a retired general, will chair the occasion. Lucky Irabor, a retired general and former Chief of Defence Staff, will give the keynote speech.
The National Leader of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will join as Co-Chairman for the event.
Understanding that insecurity needs everyone’s effort, invitations have gone out to top security officials. This includes the Minister of Defence, Minister of State for Defence, Minister of Interior, the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), and the Director-General of the State Security Services (SSS). Other service chiefs will also be present.
Officials from the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have also been invited to join the important discussions.
To ensure everyone is included, political figures and presidential candidates from various parties have also received invitations. This includes Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Seriake Dickson, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Rotimi Amaechi, and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, along with other notable leaders.
Moreover, key people from major socio-cultural groups like Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Afenifere, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), PANDEF, and the Ijaw National Congress (INC) will also take part to share their views.
The National Dialogue will gather security experts, policymakers, traditional leaders, civil society groups, diplomats, journalists, academics, youth representatives, and other important stakeholders. They will discuss the root causes of insecurity and find practical ways to achieve lasting peace and stability in Nigeria.
The discussions during the Dialogue will be open and focused on solutions. Participants will explore current security policies, identify weaknesses, suggest improvements, and recommend actions to tackle Nigeria's many security challenges.
First Daily believes it is time for real conversations that go beyond political differences and put the security and well-being of Nigerians first.
The media and the public are invited to follow this important discussion on security, which promises to be one of the most significant in recent times.
