Ibom Air has started domestic flight operations at the new international terminal at Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The airline announced in a statement that it began local flight operations on Sunday.
“Today marks another defining moment in the evolution of Ibom Air and the aviation sector in Akwa Ibom State,” said CEO George Uriesi.
“The start of our domestic operations from the new International Terminal shows our commitment to giving our passengers a safe and world-class travel experience,” he added.
This change means that passengers flying on Ibom Air’s domestic routes will now leave from and arrive at the international terminal instead of the old domestic facility.
The move comes as airports around the country deal with more passengers and the need for better infrastructure and services.
According to the airline, the new terminal has a larger passenger handling capacity and better facilities to enhance the travel experience.
The terminal includes modern check-in areas, boarding facilities, and improved security features meant to handle the growing number of passengers.
Mr Uriesi said the facility is set to boost operational efficiency while backing the state's aviation goals.
This change also shows Akwa Ibom State's aim to strengthen Victor Attah International Airport's role in Nigeria’s aviation scene.
In recent years, the state government has invested heavily in aviation infrastructure, including airport expansions and support for the state-owned Ibom Air.
The airline, which started operations in 2019, has expanded its domestic routes and has become one of Nigeria’s top carriers by passenger traffic and punctuality.
Passengers flying through Uyo are advised to arrive early for their flights and get used to the new terminal layout.
The airline mentioned that plans are in place to make the transition smooth with little disruption to scheduled flights.
The launch of domestic operations at the terminal is expected to increase activity at the airport and help improve air transport connections in the South-South region.
