The Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board has returned ₦3.4 billion to the state treasury after finishing plans for the 2026 Hajj.
This amount is the full balance of an interest-free loan given to the board by the state governor, Umar Namadi, for the upcoming Hajj.
The State Executive Council approved this financial support to help the board make timely payments and secure the state’s Hajj seats from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
Ahmad Labbo, the Director General of the Board, officially handed the money over to the treasury. He confirmed that the entire amount was returned without any deductions or retained interest.
The governor's early release of this large loan aimed to protect pilgrims from last-minute challenges and high prices that often come with late registrations.
The state government made early payments to NAHCON and arranged logistics like accommodation, flights, and meals in the Holy Land well ahead of time.
Mr Labbo shared his deep appreciation for Governor Namadi’s support. He highlighted the governor's commitment to improving pilgrimage services in the state.
He added that the prompt repayment of the loan shows the board’s clear management and financial responsibility under the current administration.
