The Kano State Police Command has arrested 345 suspected thugs, drug dealers, and others found with 270 dangerous weapons across the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, shared these details during a news conference about security in the state on Monday.
He explained that a three-day coordinated operation took place across all 44 local government areas in the state. This operation was aimed at breaking down criminal groups, stopping the flow of weapons, and disrupting drug supply lines.
“I have called this briefing to inform the people of Kano State about the current security situation, to share the results of our recent statewide operation, and to reassure everyone that we are committed to building on the progress we have made.
“During the operations, we arrested 345 suspects. This includes thugs, drug dealers, and others found with offensive weapons. All suspects are now being investigated and will face prosecution if there is enough evidence,” Bakori stated.
He mentioned that at least 270 dangerous weapons were recovered. This includes knives, cutlasses, clubs, and other tools used in violent acts.
Additionally, Bakori said they also seized a large amount of suspected illegal drugs. This includes cannabis sativa, Exol tablets, and a dangerous mixture known locally as “Suck and Die.”
The Commissioner noted that these seizures have reduced the ability of criminal groups to harm law-abiding citizens and disrupt communities.
Operation Kukan Kura Active
Bakori also talked about Operation Kukan Kura, saying it is still ongoing across the state. The operation has improved police visibility, reduced response times to emergency calls, and has made it harder for criminals to regroup in areas known for crime.“The Violent Crime Response Unit, which we just launched, has improved our response to armed violence and gang activities. Its intelligence and quick-response capabilities have helped us act faster on important information,” he said.
He added that the command will keep applying pressure through raids, intelligence operations, and prosecutions until crime is no longer a problem.
