Keyamo: Atiku's Absence in 2027 Election Won't Cause Chaos
Festus Keyamo discusses the recent court ruling that voided Atiku Abubakar's nomination for the 2027 election, asserting that democracy is not threatened by his absence.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has spoken about the recent Federal High Court ruling. This ruling canceled the leadership of the African Democratic Congress led by David Mark. It also voided the nomination of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
In a post on X on Friday, Keyamo supported the court's decision. He said court rulings should rely on facts and evidence, not on public feelings or political anger.
He rejected claims that the ruling endangers democracy. He said, “You cannot abuse judges and blackmail the judiciary when it doesn’t go your way. Heavens will not fall if a certain Atiku Abubakar is not on the ballot in 2027.”
Keyamo stated that the ADC is still a functioning political party with its true leaders and members. He added that they are “no less Nigerians” than those in the now-disqualified leadership.

These comments from the minister come as the debate continues over how consistently people accept court decisions. There are reminders of past Supreme Court rulings in Bayelsa in 2020 and Zamfara in 2019 that went against the APC. The party accepted those decisions at that time.
PUNCH Online reported that the crisis in the leadership of the African Democratic Congress got worse on Thursday. The Federal High Court in Abuja ruled against the National Working Committee led by David Mark. This ruling also invalidated the process that made Atiku Abubakar the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
