The Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said he is working to make the party stronger and ready for the 2027 elections.
Kwankwaso shared this in a post on his verified X account on Sunday. He revealed that he visited the National Leader of the party, Seriake Dickson, at his home in Abuja.
He mentioned that the meeting was part of ongoing talks to unite the party and prepare for future elections.
"Today, I paid a courtesy visit to the National Leader of our party, the NDC, His Excellency Seriake Dickson at his residence in Abuja."
"The engagement forms part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the party’s unity, resilience, and strategic readiness as we prepare for the 2027 general elections," he wrote.
Kwankwaso also showed faith in the judicial process. He said the party stands by democratic values and the rule of law even with recent challenges.
"As true democrats, we remain committed to the rule of law and have absolute confidence in the judicial process. No temporary setback can weaken the spirit of a movement built on hope, justice, equity, and the collective aspirations of the Nigerian people," he stated.
He urged party members and supporters to stay calm and focus on the party’s goals.
"I urge all party members, supporters, and well-meaning Nigerians to stay calm, resolute, and focused on our shared mission. Together, we will rise above every challenge.
"Nigeria will be OK," he added.
In a post on his official Facebook page on Sunday, Dickson confirmed the meeting with Kwankwaso. He said they "discussed issues of mutual interest concerning our party."
The NDC leader mentioned that he and other party leaders have decided to reject the idea of a one-party democracy.
"We reaffirmed our resolve to stand together in the fight for multi-party democracy, and I briefed him on the measures the party is taking to correct and redress the distractions caused by the anomalous ruling of the Federal High Court. We are on course," he added.
PUNCH Online reminds us that the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, recently overturned its December 10, 2025 judgment. This judgment had ordered the electoral body to register the NDC as a political party.
In the ruling on suit No. FHC/LKJ/CS/49/2025, Justice Isah Dashen said the earlier judgment was made without hearing all necessary parties, making the proceedings constitutionally wrong.
The court's decision came after an application from the Peace Movement Party. They argued that they had a legal interest in the matter and should have been included in the suit before the judgment was given.
