The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has denied reports on social media claiming that another building collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos.

LASEMA's Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, shared this information in a statement on Thursday. He labeled the reports as false and misleading.

Oke-Osanyintolu said that after seeing the reports, officials were sent to check the area where the incident was said to have happened.

He added that no signs of a new building collapse were found after a detailed inspection of the site.

"Following the receipt of the information, the Agency immediately deployed personnel to assess the reported location.

"After a thorough sweep of the area, no evidence of a second building collapse was found," the statement noted.

The LASEMA boss urged people to confirm information before sharing it. He warned that false emergency reports could disrupt rescue efforts.

"The circulation of false emergency reports diverts critical resources, dissipates operational efforts and may delay response to genuine emergencies where lives are at risk," he said.

Oke-Osanyintolu thanked residents for being alert. He encouraged everyone to report emergencies through the right channels. This helps first responders check facts before information spreads widely.

He reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to protecting lives and property through quick and organized emergency responses.

"Under the leadership of Mr Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, LASEMA and all emergency response agencies remain fully committed to protecting lives and property through prompt, coordinated and professional emergency response," the statement added.

This clarification comes after a recent two-storey building collapse in the same community that resulted in nine deaths and 27 injuries.

PUNCH Online reported that the earlier building collapse at Alakija Bus Stop, Satellite Town, in the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, led to a large multi-agency rescue operation. This operation lasted for two days before all trapped victims were recovered from the rubble.
