Makinde Calls for Economic and Security Changes at Movement Launch

Governor Seyi Makinde urges reforms in Nigeria's economy and security at the launch of the Makinde-Daura Resetter Movement in Lagos, emphasizing the need for better living conditions.

Makinde Calls for Economic and Security Changes at Movement Launch

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has called for changes in Nigeria's economy, security, and education. He questioned the country’s economic growth while many citizens struggle to feed their families.

Mr Makinde shared his thoughts in a video message on Saturday during the launch of the Makinde-Daura Resetter Movement in Ikeja, Lagos.

"I am with you 101 per cent towards the Reset Agenda for Nigeria. We need to reset our economy. We need to reset our security architecture. We need to reset our educational system," he said.

He asked how rising foreign reserves help when many Nigerians cannot afford basic needs. Using a family example, Mr Makinde said it is pointless for a head of a family to boast about savings while the family members are hungry.

He emphasized that economic progress should improve living conditions and allow young Nigerians to chase their dreams.

Martins James, director of media for the Progressive Youths for Makinde’s Presidency 2027 (PYFMP2027), said the program aims to prepare supporters to spread the movement’s message in Lagos and beyond.

The group had earlier launched its “MAD Resetter” campaign in Lagos. Members expressed confidence that their ticket could beat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr James pointed out that the 2027 election will give Nigerians a chance to choose a new path for the country.

"The 2027 election will provide Nigerians with an opportunity to choose a new direction for the country and embrace a leadership agenda focused on development, accountability, economic opportunity and a better quality of life," he said.

He defined a “MAD Resetter” as a supporter who wants political change and better governance. He added that the campaign would focus on policies instead of political divisions.

Emmanuel Dennis, director of volunteers at the Makinde and Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation, said rising fuel and electricity costs, insecurity, unemployment, and high living costs were among the issues pushing the movement.

He criticized the National Assembly, calling it a rubber stamp, and questioned the courts' role in handling electoral disputes.

Mr Dennis said the movement would focus on grassroots efforts and campaigns based on issues, not just entertainment rallies. He explained that “MAD” stands for “Make a Difference with Makinde and Daura.”

In a goodwill message, Laja Adeoye, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate in Lagos State, urged residents to use their permanent voter cards to hold elected officials accountable.

He also warned voters not to exchange their votes for money, saying such payments would not make up for poor governance over four years.

Osi Iwenekhai, national coordinator of the Reset Agents Network, urged young people to get involved in the 2027 elections. He said Mr Makinde has shown the commitment needed to track government projects.

Former Minister of Aviation Hassan Felix Hyat criticized the federal government’s economic policies. He mentioned hunger, unemployment, and insecurity as ongoing problems.

He said Nigeria’s resources should lead to better living conditions for more citizens.

The organisers plan to expand the movement’s network across the country as the 2027 election approaches.
