The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 8,287 nylon bags of a substance believed to be ‘Canadian Loud’. This haul weighed 4,143.5 kilogrammes and was found at the Apapa seaport in Lagos.
Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for NDLEA, shared this news in a statement on Sunday from Abuja.
Babafemi explained that the drugs, with a street value of over N10.3 billion, were discovered in a container brought in from Canada. This happened during a joint examination of the shipment by NDLEA officers, Customs officials, and other security agents on 10 July.
He noted that the discovery was the result of weeks of careful tracking and monitoring of the shipment since it left Montreal, Canada. This was done by the Maritime Intelligence Unit of NDLEA in partnership with the Apapa Strategic Command of the agency.
Drug Trafficking Attempt Foiled
Babafemi also mentioned that NDLEA operatives from the Directorate of Operation and General Investigation (DOGI) stopped a drug trafficker from exporting 2.5 kilogrammes of a substance thought to be skunk, which is a type of cannabis.
He revealed that the drugs were hidden inside a gas compressor heading to Cyprus through a courier service in Lagos.
Furthermore, Babafemi said that NDLEA commands and units across Nigeria are continuing their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) awareness campaigns. These activities are taking place in schools, religious centers, workplaces, and communities.
Babafemi quoted NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, a retired brigadier-general. Marwa praised the efforts of the DOGI and Apapa commands for their successful arrests and drug seizures.
He acknowledged their work in reducing drug supply and urged them and their colleagues nationwide to keep up the fight.
