Troops from Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued a woman who was kidnapped and stopped a planned ransom exchange in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
This operation came after they received reliable information about a ransom payment for the woman. She had been taken from her farm last month, according to Lt Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the acting spokesperson for the troops.
Osoba shared in a statement on Thursday that the troops quickly moved in to interrupt the transaction. The terrorists tried to fight back when they saw the advancing troops.
He explained that the army's strong firepower made the criminals retreat in confusion, leaving the hostage behind. "The engagement forced the criminals to retreat in disarray, abandoning the hostage, who was subsequently secured by our troops," Osoba said.
The victim was found safe and was taken back to her family in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
"After the rescue, troops conducted a thorough check of the terrorists' escape route to make sure the area was secure before returning to base," he added.
In another operation, troops carried out routine patrols across parts of Ngaski Local Government Area. Osoba said these patrols went smoothly, and he described the effort as part of their ongoing work to stop criminals from moving freely in the area.
The military spokesman reassured residents that Operation FANSAN YAMMA would keep putting pressure on terrorists and bandits in Kebbi State and other regions.
"We will keep the fire on everywhere the terrorists are. We will dismantle them to secure Kebbi State and Nigeria," Osoba stated.
He asked residents to work closely with security agencies by giving timely and reliable information that could help the troops prevent attacks and disrupt criminal activities.
"We urge members of the public to continue sharing credible information with security agencies. Such intelligence is critical to thwarting the activities of criminal elements and securing our communities," he said.
