Auwal Rafsanjani, the Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) and Head of Transparency International (TI) Nigeria, has received the Transparency International Amalia Award for Individual Professional Excellence. This is one of the highest awards from the organization, recognizing great leadership, expertise, and commitment to the global fight against corruption.

The award was given at the Transparency International Movement Awards Ceremony on 1 July. This event marked the end of the TI Summit 2026, which took place from 29 June to 1 July.

The Amalia Award is named after Amalia Kostanyan, a former chair of Transparency International Armenia. It honors individuals and Chapters who make exceptional contributions to the Transparency International movement.

The Professional Excellence category celebrates outstanding leadership, innovation, and commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption efforts.

Mr Rafsanjani received the award for his consistent leadership in encouraging transparency, accountability, democratic governance, and anti-corruption reforms both in Nigeria and beyond. Under his watch, CISLAC has improved evidence-based policy advocacy, public accountability, fiscal transparency, electoral integrity, and regional cooperation. This has made a big impact on Nigeria’s fight against corruption and the wider Transparency International movement.

During the award presentation, François Valérian, Chair of Transparency International, praised Mr Rafsanjani for his strong commitment to fighting corruption and his excellent leadership of TI Nigeria. He pointed out that under Mr Rafsanjani’s leadership, TI Nigeria has become a more influential voice in the global Transparency International movement, regularly participating in international conferences, policy talks, and joint anti-corruption efforts.

Mr Valérian said Mr Rafsanjani has improved the chapter’s reputation through effective advocacy, resilience, and principled leadership. He described Mr Rafsanjani’s work to push for transparency and accountability in Nigeria and Africa as outstanding and deserving of global recognition.

In response to the award, Mr Rafsanjani said it reflects the hard work of the CISLAC team, their partners, and anti-corruption advocates. He emphasized his dedication to promoting democratic governance, institutional reforms, and accountability in Nigeria, Africa, and the wider world.

The recognition highlights CISLAC’s growing influence within the global Transparency International movement. It also reinforces the commitment to promoting good governance, strengthening democratic institutions, and ensuring accountability.
