The Bauchi State Police have arrested a man suspected of vandalizing railway property. His name is Abubakar Sanusi. The police also recovered a set of damaged railway slippers in Doya Quarters, located in Bauchi metropolis.
SP Nafiu Habib, the police spokesperson, shared this information in a statement on Wednesday. He said the arrest and recovery were based on reliable information the command received about the vandalism of railway properties in the state capital.
Habib mentioned that the tip-off came on August 17, 2026, at around 12:30 AM. This led the officers from the ‘A’ Division Township to take immediate action. They followed the trail of the stolen railway materials to a house in Doya Quarters.
He explained, “In response, operatives attached to ‘A’ Division Township swiftly swung into action and traced the stolen items to a residential building in Doya Quarters, as against the expectation that such exhibits would be concealed in a warehouse or government facility.”
The police recovered all the vandalized railway slippers and took them to the police station. Habib said, “Consequently, the entire consignment of vandalised railway slippers was recovered and evacuated to the station. The operation was concluded at about 0330hrs on 18th August 2026 with the arrest of a male suspect, Abubakar Sanusi, in connection with the crime.”
The police are still investigating to find and arrest others who may be part of the group responsible for the vandalism. In the meantime, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the command’s dedication to protecting important national assets.
Aliyu warned that anyone caught vandalizing or damaging government property would be punished under the law. He stated, “Anyone found engaging in vandalism or destruction of government property will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
The police also urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. They added, “We call on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station and support in the protection of national assets, anywhere and always.
