Kano Police Recover Two Stolen Cars, Arrest One Suspect

The Kano State Police have recovered two stolen vehicles linked to different theft cases. They also arrested one suspect as part of ongoing efforts to tackle vehicle theft in the state.

The police shared this information in a statement on Wednesday through their spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa. The recovery was done by the Special Intervention Squad under the Inspector-General of Police’s strategy focused on intelligence and community policing.

One of the recovered cars is a white Toyota Hilux with registration number KMC 25. This vehicle was stolen on July 26 after its owner parked it along Lamido Crescent in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State.

The owner, Zaiyyad Farouk from Hotoro Quarters, reported that his driver parked the vehicle around 10:35 p.m., but it was missing when he returned.

After receiving the report, SIS operatives began an investigation. They tracked down the vehicle and found it with Abdussalam Salisu from Kurna Asabe Quarters in Kano.

The police stated that the car has been returned to its owner after proper checks. They are still working to catch another suspect who is on the run, as well as others involved in the theft.

In another case, the police recovered a black Hyundai Elantra that was stolen on July 10 from Annur Mosque in Abuja. The statement said police intelligence led operatives to Dutse Local Government Area in Jigawa State.

The suspects abandoned the Hyundai Elantra and ran away when they saw security operatives during a coordinated operation on July 22. Preliminary investigations linked the suspects to a vehicle theft gang operating across Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano.

The police mentioned that the recovered Hyundai Elantra is being processed for handover to its owner in Abuja. They are also working hard to arrest the fleeing suspects and track down those who received the stolen vehicles.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Bakori, praised the Special Intervention Squad for their quick response and professionalism. This led to the recovery of the vehicles and the arrest of a suspect.

"The dedication and professionalism displayed by our officers in these operations reflect the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in Kano State," Bakori said.

He assured residents that the police will work hard to catch the suspects who are still at large. "We will continue to pursue all fleeing suspects and ensure they are brought to justice. Criminals have no hiding place, and we are determined to dismantle all criminal networks operating within and outside the state," he said.

Bakori also called on the public to improve security around their vehicles and support the police by providing timely and reliable information.

"We appeal to residents to secure their vehicles properly and report any suspicious activities. Public support is crucial for preventing crime and enhancing security across the state," he added.
