Qatar, Türkiye, Pakistan, Indonesia Team Up for Defence Agreement

Qatar, Türkiye, Indonesia and Pakistan have come together to sign a new defence agreement. This pact focuses on developing and producing military equipment and defence systems together.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Doha on Wednesday. It aims to boost defence cooperation among the four countries.

This agreement is called the Badr Memorandum of Understanding. The Qatari Defence Ministry stated that it aims to “foster cooperation in the field of defence manufacturing, enhance defence capabilities among the four countries.”

This deal is signed during a time when the US and Israel's actions against Iran are affecting security in the Middle East. This has raised fears in Gulf countries about missile and drone threats.

It has also made them worried about the safety of their critical infrastructure. There are also concerns about relying too much on foreign powers for security.

Tensions are also rising between Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni rebel group, Ansar Allah, also known as the Houthis. Both sides have been attacking each other since August. Many see this as a new front in the ongoing Middle East conflict.

The Qatari Defence Ministry mentioned that this new defence initiative will “promote collaboration in technical defence training, as well as in research and development areas.”

It said the goal is to create solutions and industries that match the needs of modern defence. The agreement also aims to help the four countries build stronger domestic defence industries and improve their manufacturing capabilities.

Experts believe each country brings its own strengths to the agreement. Türkiye is expanding its domestic defence industry and can offer technological know-how and a strong defence sector.

Pakistan and Indonesia bring manufacturing capabilities, skilled workers, and access to their local markets. Qatar, on the other hand, is expected to provide investment opportunities.
