The Nigeria Police Force has convicted two men for arms trafficking linked to terrorism. They were caught during an operation in Katsina State.
After their arrest, they faced the Federal High Court in Katsina. The court sentenced them to more than 20 years in prison.
CSP Anietie Iniedu, the Force Public Relations Officer, shared this news in a statement on Friday.
The convicts, Abdussalam Muhammad and Aminu Mamman, were arrested by the Katsina State Police in September 2025. They were caught along the Ingawa, Karkarku Road while transporting illegal firearms and ammunition meant for criminals.
Iniedu reported that the police recovered several weapons from the suspects. These included one PKT machine gun, 230 rounds of PKT ammunition, and 1,663 rounds of 7.62mm x 39mm AK-47 ammunition. They also seized the vehicle used to carry the weapons.
The statement explained that after thorough investigations, the suspects faced charges in the Federal High Court. The charges included criminal conspiracy, illegal possession and transport of firearms, aiding terrorists, and actions related to terrorism. This was under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act of 2022 and the Firearms Act.
“The trial included witness testimonies and evidence presented by the prosecution. Both men were found guilty on all charges,” the statement noted.
The court then sentenced each of them to five years for the first charge. For the other four charges, they received 20 years each.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, praised the investigators and the prosecution team. He said this successful case shows the police's determination to fight terrorism and arms trafficking.
“He emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to tackling terrorism, stopping illegal arms trade, and ensuring that anyone involved in threats to Nigeria’s safety is punished,” the statement concluded.
