The Ghana Police Service has announced plans to charge two Nigerians for the murder of another Nigerian, Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze. They accused him of keeping money from their alleged internet fraud activities.
The suspects, Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were arrested by the Northern Regional Police Command. This happened after the police found the body of the 36-year-old victim in his home in Sanzirigu, Tamale, on Saturday.
A statement from the Regional Public Relations Unit of the Ghana Police Service on Sunday night revealed that preliminary investigations showed the victim lived with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects, and another Nigerian named Godwin Nwafor in a three-bedroom apartment.
The police started looking into the case after receiving a report about the victim being found lying in a pool of blood in his bedroom. Investigators who went to the scene found that the victim had a deep cut on his forehead and a towel stuffed in his mouth.
The police said they recovered a wooden pestle believed to be the weapon used in the attack, along with other evidence from the scene for forensic checks.
"Police investigations began after a report was received that the deceased was found lying motionless in a pool of blood in his bedroom. A team of investigators quickly visited the scene, where they found that the deceased had a deep cut on his forehead and a towel stuffed in his mouth. The room had also been ransacked.
The body was taken to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where medical staff confirmed he was dead. His body was then moved to the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy," the statement said.
The police stated that intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the two suspects at Tatale the same day. They were allegedly trying to escape to Togo through the Tatale border.
"During questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed to planning the murder. They accused the victim of keeping money they made from internet fraud activities," the police said.
The police also mentioned that after the suspects were arrested, they found several items believed to be stolen from the victim's room. These items included multiple mobile phones, laptops, a tablet, jewelry, clothing, wristwatches, personal documents, and other valuables.
The statement confirmed that the suspects are still in police custody. They are expected to appear in court as investigations continue.
The Ghana Police Service promised to ensure that everyone involved in this crime is brought to justice. They also encouraged the public to provide reliable information to help in fighting crime.
