Uganda Sets 21-Day Quarantine for Citizens Coming from DR Congo
Uganda has announced a 21-day quarantine for citizens returning from the DRC as a precaution against Ebola. This comes after cases were reported in Nigeria and Kenya.
Uganda has told its citizens returning from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to stay in quarantine for 21 days. This is part of efforts to stop the spread of Ebola, especially after cases were reported in Nigeria and Kenya.
Health Minister Chris Baryomunsi shared this news at a press conference in Kampala. He said the government is boosting surveillance at Entebbe International Airport and at land borders.
The Ministry of Health stated that Ugandans returning from the DRC with travel history will pay for their quarantine. All travelers must fill out forms with their contact information. This is to help health officials keep track of them.
These actions are being taken while officials investigate the first confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria in over ten years. There are also concerns about a link between the cases in Nigeria and Kenya.

Uganda had declared its Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak over in July. During that outbreak, there were 20 cases and two deaths, according to the Ministry of Health. They insist that there are no current Ebola cases in the country.
Meanwhile, the investigation into Nigeria’s imported Ebola case is ongoing. There are different reports about the movements of the woman who tested positive before she was diagnosed.
