Wike's Work Highlights Failures of Other Governors, Says Ex-Bayelsa Candidate

A former governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, Udengs Eradiri, says the work of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja shows the poor performance of many state governors.

Eradiri, who used to be the President of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, said Wike has changed the Federal Capital Territory in less than four years with the resources at his disposal.

In a statement released in Port Harcourt on Sunday, the former IYC president also mentioned that Wike has closed the development gap between Abuja city and its nearby towns.

The statement said, “Wike’s performance has shown us that the problems of underdevelopment in Nigeria are mostly due to many state governors and local government chairmen. They often mismanage the resources that come to their states.”

“Most of these governors lack commitment, dedication, and the desire to carry out projects that can benefit the people and change their states for the better. They focus on their selfish interests and view the state’s resources as their own.”

Eradiri noted that Wike’s work has become a standard for judging the impact of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He pointed out that in the last 30 days, the minister and the President have been opening completed projects and starting new ones across the FCT and its surrounding areas.

He also mentioned that Wike’s dedication to development has helped him break through bureaucratic delays. This ensures that contractors finish projects on time and meet the required standards.

“Wike’s projects aim to improve the lives of regular people, develop rural areas, and allow everyone to see and enjoy the true benefits of democracy. His goals include completing projects that were left unfinished for years before President Tinubu came into power and keeping the President’s promises to the people.

“If a minister can deliver so many impactful and quality projects in one term, why are most governors not able to change their states despite the large resources they receive, especially now under President Tinubu’s administration?

“Why are there still many unfinished projects in states, with communities suffering in poverty and lacking access roads?

“Why do many communities still lack basic services like electricity, proper healthcare, and clean water? The reality is that most of these governors are not capable and should not be in power,” Eradiri said.

He insisted that Wike’s achievements in the FCT should remind Nigerians to hold their governors responsible and not let them blame the Federal Government for their failures.

Eradiri added, “With the large revenue that states are now receiving because of President Tinubu’s economic reforms, people should not accept any excuses for poor performance from their governors. No governor should hide behind rising costs or exchange rate issues to mislead the people.

“It is in the same economic situation that Minister Wike is providing for the people and improving both the FCT and its nearby towns. Governors need to turn their ground-breaking events into actual project openings, just like Wike has been doing.”

He urged governors to use the increased revenue to fix infrastructure problems in both cities and rural areas.

“They should prove the increase in revenue to their states by delivering real projects, just as the FCT minister has done in Abuja. The people will not accept excuses anymore,” he concluded.
