2027: Makinde is the Best Choice for Opposition, Says Lagos APM

The Allied People’s Movement in Lagos State believes that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is the best candidate for the opposition to present in the 2027 general elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Makinde is the APM's Presidential Candidate.

In a statement on Monday in Lagos, APM State Publicity Secretary Ayodele Kazeem said Makinde has the leadership skills, competence, and national appeal needed to unite the opposition and give Nigerians a trustworthy alternative.

Kazeem noted that APM’s view comes from Makinde’s leadership history, governance style, and achievements, not from political feelings or convenience.

"APM Lagos firmly believes that if the opposition truly wants to offer the Nigerian people a credible alternative in 2027, then Governor Seyi Makinde is the most qualified, competent, and unifying candidate to represent the coalition.

"This view is not based on emotions or political convenience. It comes from leadership, competence, performance, and national appeal.

"Governor Makinde has built a reputation as a leader who governs wisely, with transparency, and produces measurable results.

"Under his leadership, Oyo State has seen major investments in road infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, and security, while also being known for better fiscal management and economic growth," Kazeem said.

He added that Nigerians need a president who truly understands governance now.

Kazeem stated that Makinde has shown that government can work for the people.

"He (Makinde) has consistently demonstrated that public resources can be managed responsibly without unnecessary waste. He has proven that development can come from planning, not just talk.

"He has shown that government can deliver real projects while keeping financial discipline.

"Besides his achievements in Oyo State, Makinde has the qualities that make him fit to unite the opposition.

"He has goodwill across political lines. He is respected by governors from different parties," he said.

Kazeem described Makinde as a bridge-builder who has created political ties across regions.

He said that Makinde’s calmness, listening skills, and ability to build consensus are what Nigeria needs after years of political tension and division.

"Unlike politicians whose appeal is limited to one area, Governor Makinde has the character and credibility to gain support from all over Nigeria.

"For the opposition coalition, electability matters just as much as popularity. The coalition cannot afford to put forward a candidate who only excites part of the country but cannot form a national winning alliance.

"Makinde brings that balance. He represents a new generation of leadership. He understands both the private and public sectors. He has executive experience.

"He has shown bravery in making tough choices while staying accessible to the people," Kazeem said.

He promised that the party is ready to help mobilize support for the opposition coalition in Lagos State.

"The APM in Lagos is not just taking part in coalition talks; it is actively creating the structures needed to turn public dissatisfaction into electoral success," he said.

Kazeem mentioned that APM’s governorship candidate, Prince Laja Adeoye, has taken on a key role in developing a strong grassroots mobilization plan.

He said this plan aims to bring over five million votes to the coalition’s presidential victory across the 20 Local Governments and 37 LCDAs in Lagos.

"The strategy focuses on strengthening polling unit structures across Lagos, expanding volunteer networks, mobilizing young voters, women, and professionals, and ramping up voter registration and PVC collection campaigns.

"We are also using digital campaign platforms, training election agents, and working with community groups, market associations, transport unions, and faith-based organizations.

"This is not a campaign centered on personalities but on restoring hope to Nigerians through issue-based politics," he said.
