The Abia State Government is teaming up with MTN Nigeria. They have now achieved 77 percent voice and data coverage in the state. This is thanks to new telecom sites, according to Okey Kanu, the Abia Commissioner for Information.

Kanu spoke on Monday while updating reporters after the State Executive Council meeting in Umuahia. He mentioned that many residents are noticing better network coverage in areas that used to struggle with service.

But he also raised concerns about the vandalism of telecom sites and fiber cables, especially in Aba. This damage is affecting service quality.

Kanu asked local communities to take care of the communication infrastructure being set up. He believes that this will help improve telecom services all over the state.

The commissioner said MTN is working hard to bring back the nearly 100 percent coverage that was in place before the vandalism of some new sites.
