Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has saved the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate in Abeokuta from possible loss and turned the halted project into a 108-unit modern housing community.
The estate, located along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, will be commissioned on Tuesday by the First Lady, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu.
The Abiodun administration took over the project when it was largely undeveloped, with only the infrastructure awarded and one show building finished. The project was stuck in a legal battle over unpaid debts to the contractor in charge of its development.
This situation put the property at risk of being lost through legal action. However, the Abiodun administration stepped in, settled the dispute out of court, and started making payments to secure the state’s interest in the estate.
Instead of abandoning the inherited project, the government decided to use a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. In this model, the state provided the land and infrastructure while private developers handled the construction and sale of the housing units.
This intervention led to the completion of the PMB Estate, which has 108 four-bedroom fully detached and semi-detached duplexes. These homes are designed with modern architecture and high-quality infrastructure.
The development includes well-constructed roads with street lights, green areas, clean water supply, waste management facilities, a sports center, children’s playground, clubhouse, 24-hour power supply, ample parking, and top security in a gated community.
The fully detached homes sit on about 900 square meters. They feature four en-suite bedrooms, boys’ quarters, a master bedroom with a closet, spacious living and dining areas, a family lounge, a study, a visitors’ toilet, and a terrace. The semi-detached units, measuring between 460 and 500 square meters, offer similar facilities but lack a study.
Governor Abiodun stated that the project shows his administration’s commitment to protecting public investments and finishing inherited projects rather than letting them become abandoned.
“This project is part of our administration’s commitment to providing quality and affordable housing for different categories of residents while ensuring that government projects inherited from previous administrations were completed rather than abandoned,” the Governor said.
He added that the PMB Estate would serve as a model for similar public-private housing projects across Ogun State.
The estate is strategically located opposite the State Judiciary Complex and near the Ogun TechHub. It offers easy access to key institutional, commercial, and transportation hubs.
It is about two minutes from the Ogun TechHub, seven minutes from Government House, 12 minutes from the Abeokuta Golf Course, 15 minutes from the Wole Soyinka Train Station, and roughly 30 minutes from Lagos.
The development is also attracting private investment. Access Bank is currently building a training school and other facilities within the estate.
The commissioning will officially mark the end of a project that once faced abandonment and possible forfeiture. The Abiodun administration has now transformed it into a modern housing community.
Beyond the 108 homes, the PMB Estate shows another example of the administration’s policy to protect public assets, use private capital, and turn inherited liabilities into useful infrastructure for the people of Ogun State.
