ADC kicks off campaign in Imo

The African Democratic Congress kicked off its campaign in Imo, focusing on integrity and local governance. Leaders urge voters to support ADC candidates for a better future.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) started its campaign in Owerri on Saturday, gearing up for the 2027 General Elections. They promised transparent governance and quick changes at the grassroots level.

At the event, former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, spoke about the party's focus on equality and trustworthy leadership. He said he supports the party’s candidates because of their integrity.

“I ran a government centred on the people, and drove the process of good governance with honesty and integrity,” he stated. He added that the ADC candidates share his political beliefs.

Ihedioha expressed his disappointment over the abandonment of projects from his administration, like the construction of 27 local government stadiums and the expansion of the Adapalm plantation.

He mentioned that voting for ADC candidates would give local government councils full control, “enabling them to execute emergency road rehabilitations across rural communities in the state.”

David Mark, the National Chairman of the party, was represented by National Vice Chairman, Bon Unachukwu. He noted the large number of supporters at the event, showing that many people accept the party.

Mark encouraged voters to choose all ADC candidates “to end hardship and insecurity in Imo and Nigeria.”

“When you vote ADC, you vote for prosperity, progress, and success,” he said.

Ben Mere, the Owerri Zonal Chairman of the party, asked supporters to spread the party’s message to every ward and village in the state. He assured party members that the ADC structure in the zone is united and ready to win all elections coming up.

Uchenna Ofoegbu, the Imo East Senatorial Candidate for the party, shared his main goal, which is to “rescue the people from poverty and provide effective legislative representation.”

Ofoegbu said citizens are suffering from bad governance. “Youth and women empowerment, rehabilitation of rural roads, and improved community healthcare delivery will form the focus of our campaign promises,” he explained.

He added that the party plans to introduce strategies to protect votes, making sure the people’s votes count.

Okey Amadi, the House of Representatives Candidate for Owerri Federal Constituency, described his candidacy as a “divine mandate supported by the electorate.”

“We promise a different kind of leadership that will guarantee security of lives, good medical services, and accountability through periodic presentation of our scorecards,” Amadi said.

He also promised to advocate strongly for his constituency once elected.

Other speakers included House of Assembly candidates, William Merem (Owerri North), Chidiebere Mere (Owerri Municipal), Francis Ugorji (Owerri West), and the state Chairman of the party, James Okoroma.

A key moment in the event was when the party’s flag was presented to the state and national assembly candidates.
