Adeleke Campaign Raises Alarm Over Security at Osun Speaker's Home

The Adeleke Campaign Council is worried about armed security personnel at the home of the Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Adewale Egbedun. This situation arose on Saturday, which was the day of the state’s governorship election.

The campaign council shared a statement from its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi. The statement claims that the armed personnel arrived in over 10 black Hilux vehicles and surrounded the Speaker’s house.

According to the council, the residence was sealed off, with people inside reportedly unable to leave the premises. They expressed concern about the situation but could not confirm what the security personnel were doing there.

"We have received reports that the residence of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has been surrounded by armed security personnel who reportedly arrived in more than 10 black Hilux vehicles," the statement said.

"We have also been informed that the residence has effectively been sealed off, with everyone inside reportedly prevented from leaving the premises." The council urged security agencies to clarify the reason for their presence and the restrictions on movement at the residence.

Olajengbesi mentioned that attempts to contact the Commissioner of Police responsible for election security in the state and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the election were unsuccessful.

He added that efforts to reach the Police Situation Room also failed, as the contact number provided was switched off. The campaign council called on security agencies to ensure their actions on election day do not cause fear or intimidation in the community.

"On this Election Day, the people of Osun State deserve an atmosphere free from fear and intimidation. Security deployments must inspire confidence and protect the integrity of the electoral process," the statement continued.

The council also encouraged residents to stay peaceful and respect the law while waiting for an official explanation from the security authorities. "The people of Osun State must be allowed to come out peacefully and decide their future according to their own conscience, without intimidation or interference," the statement added.
