The pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, has praised Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for their strong actions against banditry and kidnapping in their states.
The group also recognized the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Commissioners of Police in Ogun and Lagos, Bode Ojajuni and Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, for their teamwork in fighting crime along the Ogbere-Sagamu-Ore route.
In a letter titled “Afenifere Commends Security Chiefs and Governors for Decisive Action Against Banditry and Kidnapping on the Ogbere-Sagamu-Ore Road,” signed by its National Organising Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, the group praised the Inspector-General for his leadership and use of intelligence in the fight against organized crime.
The group said the strong commitment shown by Governors Abiodun and Sanwo-Olu has allowed security agencies to carry out their duties effectively.
The letter, written on behalf of Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, Leader of Afenifere and Asiwaju of Yorubaland, noted that the quick response from the security chiefs and governors has greatly improved public safety in the affected areas.
Afenifere pointed out that the success of the operation highlighted the need for good leadership, professional policing, and cooperation between states to fight violent crimes.
The organization especially praised CP Ojajuni for his knowledge of the Ogbere-Sagamu-Ore area, and thanked CP Fatai for using specialized equipment and resources that helped make the operation successful.
Afenifere reaffirmed its support for a secure South-West, stating that the region will not be safe for kidnappers, bandits, and other criminals.
“The message is clear: ‘Kò sí àyè’, there is no place for evil in Yorubaland. Those who threaten the peace and security of our people will face the full force of the law. The Yoruba people are very grateful for this brave display of commitment and service,” the letter said.
It is important to remember that a recent joint security operation involving Ogun and Lagos State Police led to the rescue of five kidnap victims within 24 hours of their abduction along the Ogbere-Sagamu-Ore Highway. Several suspects were also arrested during the operation.
