A video making the rounds on social media has caused anger among Nigerians. It shows a violent clash in Edo State where civilians overpowered and attacked police officers.
The video, shared by Instablog9ja on Monday, captures a chaotic scene. Several young men and bystanders surrounded police officers in camouflage uniforms. One civilian repeatedly struck a male police officer while another officer and some bystanders tried to stop him.
A female police officer also attempted to help but was allegedly attacked by another male civilian. He pushed her to the ground, but a female colleague later helped her up.
Details about what led to this confrontation are not clear.
The incident has sparked a lot of reactions on X. Many users condemned the attack and warned of possible legal issues for those involved.
User #AbujaxQueen expressed concern, saying, “I just hope this guys root in jail, how on earth will u be hitting women police?”
Another user, #ashman_babane, advised against fighting with police officers. He said, “Never get into a physical or verbal confrontation with a law enforcement officer in uniform. The consequences can be severe. No country takes lightly the public humiliation or assault of its security agencies, especially the police.
