The All Progressives Congress candidate for the House of Representatives in Ekiti North II Federal Constituency, Ibrahim Olarewaju, has promised to focus on developing his people and advancing the community in Ekiti.
Olarewaju, who used to be a Senior Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters, stated that he would “continue to execute programmes, policies and projects that would enhance youth development and bridge the gap between his people’s educational needs and strategic investments.”
He spoke on Monday during the opening of a new 350-seat Computer-Based Test and Science and Technology Centre at his old school, Ansar-Ud-Deen Islamic Secondary School, in Otun-Ekiti.
At the event, he also laid the foundation stone for a new Science and Technology Laboratory block, which he and his siblings donated to the school in memory of their late parents, Alhaji Mohammed Olarewaju Uthman and Alhaja Fausat Aduke Olarewaju.
The CBT centre was started by the school’s alumni to give students digital training and help the school earn some money.
Olarewaju, who is also the National Organising Secretary of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, noted that the project needed a lot of money. He worked with the school alumni to partner with private investors for funding.
The investors built and equipped the centre. They will get their money back over time before handing full ownership to the school.
The candidate said the CBT centre would greatly benefit youth development and the community. He promised to “continue to demonstrate commitment to equipping younger ones in this federal constituency with the digital and scientific tools required to excel in a competitive global economy.”
“With state-of-the-art facilities, Ansar-Ud-Deen Islamic Secondary School, Otun-Ekiti, is set to be a leading school for academic excellence, technology, and community development. The new two-storey CBT Centre is a beautiful and modern building designed to help both the school and the larger Ekiti community. It will help solve problems for students sitting for external exams.”
“The centre has great features, including 350 test stations so candidates can take exams at the same time, a wireless internet network, and systems designed to ensure 99.9 percent connectivity. It also has high-definition CCTV cameras for monitoring and a renewable energy system to keep the power on.”
Olarewaju said that donating the science and technology laboratory block is very meaningful to him and his family. He said, “The initiative was inspired by a family memory, my mother had originally wanted me to study Medicine, but my father insisted I attend this very school, which unfortunately lacked science laboratories at the time.”
He added that the block, whose foundation stone was laid by Prince Mosediq Kazeem, SAN, the National President of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, would be finished before the year ends.
He said, “The new laboratory block will include modern spaces for Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Agriculture, and vocational studies, as well as offices and other facilities.”
“These practical training areas will make sure that no student has to deal with the old problems of lack of infrastructure, helping them to chase and reach their highest academic goals,” he said.
People at the event praised Olarewaju for his strong commitment to developing his people and the community.
