Adamawa State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Belmont Dogo, has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress has no chance of winning the governorship election in 2027.
Dogo spoke with journalists on Wednesday after Governor Ahmadu Fintiri swore in 21 local government chairmen and 226 councillors. He challenged the APC’s governorship candidate to show his contributions to Adamawa State’s development.
He also questioned the candidate’s connections to the state.
“If you look at the performance of the APC government in Adamawa State in the past, it is clear that the people of the state cannot vote for the APC.
“We are asking the APC governorship candidate to tell us what he has done for the people of Adamawa State and even where his personal house is located in Adamawa State. We cannot accept political visitors to rule the state using AI,” Dogo said.
The PDP chairman told journalists that the party’s victory in the local government election came from its strong campaign.
Earlier, Fintiri urged the new council chairmen and councillors to support his administration’s Fresh Air agenda for local development.
“As you join the Fresh Air team, let me quickly read out the operating manual of this administration, as I did to other elected chairmen before you.
“As chairmen of councils, you are the government at the grassroots. You are in a good position to promote government policies that help the poor and improve the lives of our rural dwellers,” the governor said.
He reminded the officials of the seriousness of the oath of office they had taken.
“Like a priest who never gets tired of preaching against sin, I have decided never to stop reminding every public officer of the weight of the oath in public service. It is indeed a heavy responsibility on our individual shoulders.
“How we discharge it matters greatly. Besides the social contract you have with the electorate to serve them well and deliver the dividends of democracy, you also bear the responsibility of the oath you have just taken today.
“You will stand before your Creator alone, not with your wife, children or any family member, to give an account of how you discharged the responsibilities of this office.”
Fintiri urged the council chairmen to maintain transparency, accountability and unity in their duties.
“You must be a symbol of government in your respective local government areas. Engage the people regularly and dispel any real or perceived misconceptions between the government and the governed.
“Work closely with traditional rulers and development area administrators to rebuild trust and confidence in the government’s good intentions,” the governor charged.
