APC Members in Adamawa Switch to APM
The APC in Adamawa State has lost more than 5,000 members to the APM. This shift is led by Umar Barkindo, who aims to provide better leadership for the state.

The All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State has lost over 5,000 members to the Allied People’s Movement.
The defections happened just one day after the party's campaign team was inaugurated by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
Abduralman Haske, who has left the APC, is now the governorship candidate for the APM.
On Friday, Umar Barkindo, the former chairman of Yola South Local Government Area, spoke to the defectors. He said their exit from the APC aims to provide Adamawa people with a leader who has a clear vision to deliver on democracy's promises.
Barkindo, who used to be a Permanent Secretary, explained that they left the APC due to serious disagreements within the party.
He mentioned that he officially informed the APC chairman of Makama A Ward in a letter dated October 26, 2026. He stated, "I wish to officially notify you that I have withdrawn my membership registration from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with effect from the above date. My withdrawal is personal."
The exit of Barkindo and other leaders marks another significant political shift in Adamawa State. Political activities are heating up as everyone prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Barkindo has served as Secretary to Yola South Local Government twice and has also been Chairman. This gives him a strong background in local governance and politics.
As a retired Permanent Secretary, Barkindo is a respected political figure with a solid following in Yola South.

The movement of Barkindo and other leaders from the ruling party to the APM shows how political alliances are changing in Adamawa State. This is happening especially as opposition parties get ready for the 2027 elections.
Earlier, several notable politicians left the APC, including former deputy governor Martins Babale, former PDP chairman Shehu Tahir, APC senatorial aspirant Peter Fwa, and House of Representatives aspirant Variti Nzonzo. They cited a lack of justice and the party's inability to win elections fairly as their reasons for leaving.
On Thursday, during a meeting with campaign committees, the Chairman of the Adamawa State APC Campaign Council, Fintiri, instructed all newly formed committees to submit their detailed work plans to the Secretary to the State Government by Friday, November 6, 2026.
Awwal Tukur, who is the Secretary of the Campaign Council and the Secretary to the State Government, shared this directive. He said that submitting work plans early would help the Council to review, harmonise, and approve the proposals for quick execution.
He encouraged all committees to be proactive and strategic when preparing their plans.
Tukur added that the work plans should include timelines, budget estimates, and strategies for grassroots mobilisation, media engagement, and including stakeholders. This is in line with the party’s goals for the upcoming elections.
He urged all committee leaders and secretaries to take this directive seriously and ensure their submissions arrive on time.
Last month, the APC campaign team faced attacks in Kurchiirga, the governor’s village. They were also attacked in Hong, Gombi, and Toungo local government areas, leading to a suspension of their campaigns.
