Apostolic Church clears up fire outbreak rumours

The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Ipaja Assembly has denied claims on social media that its church building caught fire.

On Sunday, the church explained that there was only a small fire spark that was quickly controlled. There was no damage to the building or loss of life.

In a notice from the church leadership, they said they needed to clarify the situation because of the many reports online saying the church was on fire.

The statement, dated 2 August 2026, mentioned that the incident happened on Sunday afternoon at the church's two-storey building.

"This afternoon, there was a fire spark in our two-storey church building. By the grace of God, the situation was immediately put under control," the church stated.

The church thanked a nearby pastor for acting quickly. He called the Fire Service, and their fast response helped stop the situation from getting worse.

"We sincerely appreciate the prompt response of the Pastor of our neighboring church, who immediately called the Fire Service. Their quick intervention ensured that the incident did not escalate," the statement added.

The church emphasized that, contrary to what people were saying online, the building was not burnt or destroyed.

"To be clear: The church building did not get burnt. There was a spark, and it was curtailed. No life was lost, and the building is safe," the statement read.

The church also thanked God for keeping everyone safe and protecting the church property. They expressed gratitude to members of the public who showed concern after the incident.

They asked members and the public to ignore what they called false reports claiming the church building was on fire.

"We urge our members and the general public to disregard any false report stating that the church was burnt. Please help us share this correct information," the Presbytery said.

The statement ended with a call for members to keep praying and staying united, assuring worshippers that the church is safe.
