The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Rauf Aregbesola, has shared that he has never been with another woman since he married his wife, Sherifat, in 1983.

The former governor of Osun State made this statement while campaigning for the ADC governorship candidate, Najeem Salaam, in Ejigbo Local Government Area. This is ahead of the state’s governorship election on August 15.

Speaking in Yoruba, the 69-year-old mentioned that his loyalty to his wife comes from his fear of God. He prayed that, based on this, the ADC would win the upcoming election.

“Since I got married to my wife, because of the fear of Allah, I have never had intimacy with another. I told God, if I did this because of you, next June, we must do it at the Government House,” he stated.

Mr Aregbesola married Sherifat in 1983, just two years after they met on Ibrahim Taiwo Road in Tudun-Wada, Kaduna. They have been together for about 43 years now.

Commitment to His Marriage

This statement comes as Mr Aregbesola campaigns to return to the Osun Government House under a different political party. He was the governor from 2010 to 2018 and later worked as the Minister of Interior under the APC-led federal government. Now, he is the National Secretary of the ADC.

Aregbesola also mentioned that not every man could make such a promise. “Allah, if it is truly I am serving you and I did not add anything else to it, what I am about to say, only a few men can say.”

When celebrating his wife’s 60th birthday in 2020, Mr Aregbesola called her a wonderful mother and the matriarch of their family.

He said that over the years, his wife has been an angel who came into his life in 1981, whom he married in 1983. He described her love as total and unquenchable.

According to him, Sherifat was made for him. He noted that she has been a great partner and support throughout his life. Mr Aregbesola said she has brought him laughter and joy, adding that she means more to him than anything else in the world.
