The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, says troops are making good progress in the effort to rescue 39 pupils and seven teachers kidnapped in Oyo.

Mr. Shaibu shared this information during a meeting with media leaders on Saturday in Port Harcourt. This event was part of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration activities.

The victims were taken on 15 May from three different schools in the Orire Local Government Area of Oyo.

"Operations are currently ongoing to rescue those children abducted in Oyo State, and we are making tremendous progress," the army chief stated.

He expressed trust that the operation would end with the safe return of the victims to their families.
