Military troops from Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, teamed up with the Yobe State Hunters Group to arrest five suspected kidnappers. This happened during an operation in Jegalari Village, Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The operation took place on July 23, 2026. Troops from the 233 Battalion based at Damaturu Military Cantonment acted on reliable information about suspected criminal activities in the area.
During the operation, the troops found three locally made AK-47 rifles, one homemade pistol, and various ammunition. They also recovered four mobile phones believed to be linked to the suspects' crimes.
Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer at Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, released a statement on Friday. He said the suspects are now in custody for more investigation.
"The suspects are currently in military custody alongside the recovered exhibits for further investigation to ascertain their involvement in kidnapping and other related criminal activities," Goni said.
The military explained that this operation is part of their ongoing work to limit the freedom of action for criminal groups in the North-East.
"Operation HADIN KAI remains committed to denying terrorists and other criminal elements the freedom to operate in the North East through sustained intelligence-driven operations," the statement added.
The military also called on residents to stay alert and help security agencies with useful information to prevent crime.
"The military urges members of the general public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest security agency," the statement said.
It further stated that "timely and credible information from law-abiding citizens remains critical to ongoing efforts to safeguard communities and enhance security across the region."
