Soldiers from the 65 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have stopped a truck carrying a large amount of illegal drugs on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road. They also arrested the driver of the truck.

The operation happened on July 9, 2026. The soldiers acted on tips they received from a reliable source.

This was shared in a statement on Sunday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lt. Col. Musa Yahaya.

"Preliminary investigations showed that the drugs were being taken to the Berger area of Lagos State.

“However, the driver could not give clear information about who owned the drugs or who was supposed to receive them,” the statement said.

It further stated, "Following standard procedures, the driver and the seized drugs were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lagos State Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.”

Lt. Col. S. Adeojo, the Commanding Officer of the 65 Battalion, supervised the handover.

The General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Maj. Gen. Adebayo Babalola, praised the soldiers for their alertness, professionalism, and effectiveness in the operation.

He encouraged them to keep the pressure on ongoing operations and work harder to stop drug traffickers and other criminals from operating in their areas.

The Army emphasized that this operation shows their continued partnership with other security agencies in the fight against drug trafficking and other crimes.
