The younger sister of Afrobeats star Ayra Starr, Saltiana, who is also known as DJ Salt of Life, has reported that some area boys damaged her car in Lagos. They mistook her for the singer.
Saltiana shared this story on her Instagram Story on Sunday. She expressed her sadness about what she called the increasing harassment of drivers by street touts in Lagos.
The incident took place on Saturday, and it left her feeling down about the state of her vehicle.
"They damaged my car yesterday and honestly it was so sad!!!" she wrote.
She said it was worse because the men kept shouting Ayra Starr's name, thinking she was the famous singer.
"And the fact that they kept shouting Ayra Starr because they thought I was her made it even worse. THIS HAS TO STOP," she said.
Saltiana raised her worries about this issue becoming more common. She pointed out that drivers with nice cars in Lagos often face trouble from street touts asking for money.
"Imagine, this is what happens now in Lagos once you drive a nice car. These Agberos/Area Boys won’t let you go unless you give them money. If you don’t give them, they might stone your car and break something. So basically, it’s by force," she explained.
She called for quick action to address this problem, saying, "This is not good. How can this be controlled because it’s getting out of hand?"
