Baby Saved from Fire in Oyo State

The Oyo State Fire Service saved a six-month-old baby from a fire in Olomi Compound, Ogbomoso North Local Government Area.

Witnesses told PUNCH Metro that the fire started around 8:38 PM on Saturday. It began on the ground floor of a one-storey house with three rooms because of a gas leak that was not attended to.

On Sunday, Morrof Akinwande, the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform, confirmed the incident. He mentioned that Mr Abiodun Mayowa reported the fire to their office.

Akinwande said, “At exactly 20:38hrs on Saturday, July 11, 2026, our office received a distress call through a telephone call from Abiodun Mayowa about a house on fire at the Olomi Compound area of Ogbomoso.

“Fire personnel, led by PFS II Oluwaleye, were quickly mobilised and arrived at the scene. Upon arrival, it was found that the ground floor of a private one-storey building was already on fire.

“The firefighting crew worked fast and put out the fire, stopping it from spreading to the upper floor and nearby properties. A baby of about six months was rescued alive from the burning building. The fire was due to an unattended gas leak.

“The officer in charge gave a short fire safety lecture to the occupants and sympathisers. He taught them important fire prevention measures to avoid future incidents,” the chairman explained.

He advised the public to follow basic fire safety rules. This includes proper installation, regular checks, and maintenance of LPG cylinders and gas appliances.

The chairman also stressed the need for having the right fire extinguishers in homes, shops, offices, and other buildings.
